10 Signs of a Panic Attack (Part 1)

Panic attacks are surprisingly common. It is a disorder that affects millions of people throughout the world; yet many do not realise that they have been affected. It is important that if you feel you might be suffering from panic attacks, or that someone close to you might be, then you know what to look for. Here are 10 telltale signs to help you.

1. An increased heart rate will often accompany a panic attack. If you feel panic coming, then your heart rate will begin speeding up rapidly. Quite often, this will feel like a pounding in your chest, and when accompanied by chest pains, it is not surprising that panic attack sufferers sometimes think that they are having a heart attack.

2. Shortness of breath or a difficulty breathing is another sign of a potential panic attack.  This usually happens because of the increased heart rate.  As with the previous point, a shortness of breath can also indicate something else, so on its own, it is not a sure fire indication of a panic attack.

3. If you start to feel nauseous, especially when accompanied by the other symptoms, then this is another possible indication of a panic attack.

4. You might feel a drop of temperature, especially in your hands as well as a feeling of dizziness.

5. The most usual symptom of a panic attack is the presence of an irrational fear. One particular fear is one of dying. Another typical fear is that of losing control or going mad. There are many other fears that can create panic in people, and just because they seem irrational to you, it is important to bear in mind that they are very real to the sufferer.
